FROM AN ARTICLE BY JOHN MADDOCKS, PUBLISHED IN THE CITY PROGRAMME 6TH MAY 1989
Resigned to at least one more Second Division season, City travelled to Hillsborough determined to see that the Sheffield club was made to fight every inch of the way in their quest for the championship.
… Williams was in sparkling form, being called upon to produce vital saves from Cunningham, Varadi and Bannister, and Hodge matched him with a super save to deal with a Parlane volley. City’s attack was not to be ignored and Parlane almost scored after 62
minutes after a delightful, flowing 5-man move, his shot going fractionally wide. The game finished goalless.
