FROM AN ARTICLE BY JOHN MADDOCKS, PUBLISHED IN THE CITY PROGRAMME 1ST MAY 1989
… Overall it was a drab game, one which showed the despondency of the City camp and the determination of the Derby County team to avoid relegation, or at least go down fighting. In the event they went down. But they still had players noted for their tenacity and battling qualities, epitomised by the likes of Dave Watson, Iohn Robertson, Kenny Burns and Archie Gemmill, and it was a combination of three of these players that produced the only goal of the game after 42 minutes.
Robertson’s comer found Bums, who in turn switched the ball to Dave Watson. The former City favourite beat Alex Williams to score his only League goal for the Rams.
