FROM AN ARTICLE BY JOHN MADDOCKS PUBLISHED IN THE CITY PROGRAMME 17TH DECEMBER 1983
City visited relegation-bound Cambridge United and paraded Eire international defender Mick McCarthy, newly signed from Bamsley. It was a game the Blues were expected to win, the home team being without a victory in their last 14 League matches, but they had to settle for a 0-0 draw. The Parlane-Tolmie scoring partnership which had been so deadly earlier in the season dried up, and indeed it was newcomer McCarthy’s header, cleared off the line by Murray, that caused the greatest problem to United in the early stages.
