This fourth round League Cup tie at Bootham Crescent could easy have been a proverbial banana skin for City. Third Division York were unbeaten in 18 League and Cup games coming into this game, and their stoic defending took this to 19 games unbeaten and a replay to come at Maine Road.
The Blues were in control for the majority of the game, but missed a hatful of chances.
York only really troubled City just before half time; Keith MacRae twice saving well from Seal efforts and then a pile-driving shot from Jones was goal-bound before it struck Tommy Booth plumb in the face, the big defender, rendered unconscious for a few seconds, had saved a certain goal.
