CORRIGAN’S BOOB DEFLATES BLUES

Manchester City had the heart ripped out of their gallant second half fightback by another inexcusable error by goalkeeper Joe Corrigan.
Inexcusable because a man of his height and weight should never drop set piece crosses, the 70th minute mistake which ultimately gave Coventry their 2-1 victory at Highfield Road last night.
Corrigan, who has dedicated himself to becoming a top flight goalkeeper with extra stints of endurance training, had earlier made splendid saves and The Blues looked set for at least a point.
Minutes before Francis Lee had gone near with a brave effort and Colin Bell, a driving skipper, had constantly had the home side stretched.
But the absence of Denis Law was reflected in front of goal where at least two chances might have been snapped up by the injured Scottish international.
Apart from an early 15 minute flurry when Mick Coop spectacularly shot his side ahead, Coventry were rarely in the game as a thrustful attacking force.
Said Mike Doyle, again City’s most consistent player: “It was our easiest game so far, Tommy Booth and myself had everything sewn up at the back.”
But their defensive stint meant nothing as Corrigan dropped that Coop cross, enabling another defender, centre half John Craven to hook the decisive goal.
Rodney Marsh scored a token goal in the last minute, but by then all the steam had been taken out of City’s fight.
