After a drab 0-0 draw at Molyneux Peter Gardner writing in the Manchester Evening News wrote off City’s chances of winning the Division One title just one season after being promoted from Division 2, he wrote “Put that champagne back on ice. The party is over so far as Manchester City are concerned. It’s been a good, clean fight, but one point at Wolverhampton was not enough to keep the Blues’ championship flag flying.
Joe Mercer gallantly conceded defeat after a colourless, unimpressive goalless draw at Molyneux when City dropped their third point within five days.”
As for Wolves it was more a point gained, meaning they need just two points from their remaining four games to ensure their First Division survival.
Wolves defended as if their lives depended on it and a lacklustre City, with Colin Bell returning after injury, looked bereft of creativity.
Supported City for 50 years ever since this day when dad refereed this game.Glad he never took me to see Stoke v Man. Utd who he refereed the same season.

This was my first ever away game and remember the girls screaming for Peter Knowles! Franny lee’s debut v Wolves earlier in that season which also saw.
