Tommy Booth had been a revelation for City after making his debut just six months earlier, however on this occasion Wolves’ striker Derek Dougan ran the young centre half ragged, scoring and assisting in another goal for the home side.
The start of the game was certainly not a pointer as to how it would play out, as within 20 seconds Francis Lee ran into the box and beat Parkes from 6 yards to put The Blues 1-0 up.
From that point City rarely bothered Parkes and Wolves continually trying to beat City’s offside trap had an effort cleared off the line by Mike Doyle and then Dowd saved well from a Dougan header.
Wolves equalised shortly after the break when Knowles headed home from a Dougan cross.
Ten minutes later and the roles were revered, Knowles feeding Dougan, who shrugged off Booth and Oakes to smash a shot into the roof of the net.
Wolves topped off a convincing victory when Munro slotted home from inside the box with just seven minutes left.
