EXTRACT FROM PETER GARDNER’S REPORT IN THE MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS 11TH NOVEMBER 1968
It was tough, indeed, for a side to stomach defeat as Manchester City did after the first half hammering they handed out to Sheffield Wednesday at Maine Road.
But the fog shrouded thriller left one with the feeling that it was only what the Blues deserved after failing to take their chances, and then handing the opposition the winner eight minutes from time.
What a personal tragedy that turned out to be for George Heslop. He entered the arena full of confidence after an hour, left 30 minutes later with head sadly bowed after miss-hitting a clearance straight to Peter Eustace, whose match winning goal went in off the post.
It was my first game
50 years a City fan for me this year
Mine too! I was in the Platt Lane stand. It was so foggy I couldn’t see past the halfway line
Finished 1-0 to Wednesday,Eustace scored
Mine too, first home defeat as League Champions. A 10th birthday treat…
