…. Leeds won at Maine Road for the first time in 33 years.
It was a strange game played out on a wicked icy surface. Leeds took a first-half lead, a neat Charlton, Giles build-up ending with Gray scoring via Doyle’s frame.
Summerbee’s centre was harshly judged to have been handled by Cooper (58 mins.), Lee predictably driving in the penalty, and just when everyone had settled for a draw, Charlton was the object of every City defender’s attention at a corner. It allowed Jones a free run at Lorimer’s centre to give Leeds both points.
