NEIL YOUNG OPENS THE SCORING
Article from City programme 4th October 1989 by John Maddocks
…. Against the Albion, chance after chance was created as the rampant Blues ripped the Baggies’ defence to shreds. But the finishing was abysmal! Really City could have had double figures if only the finishing had carried any semblance of care and accuracy.
The opening goal came just before half-time when it should have been about the fifth or sixth. Bell and Young were the main culprits, hitting the woodwork twice and bringing rather lucky saves from Osborne on other occasions. Then Oakes carved up the Albion back four and Young whacked us into the lead.
Krzywicki then got himself sent off for trying to mutilate Francis Lee (he’d already been booked) and Pardoe was so overcome by this, he beat Corrigan to give Albion on equaliser. Then after after 81 minutes Bell made amends for his misses and headed the winner, much to the home crowd’s relief.
