SPANIARDS OUTSHONE
Manchester City`s indomitable spirit and ceaseless attacking enthusiasm were the factors which proved decisive in their 3-0 win against Atletico Bilbao at Maine Road Iast night, and gave them an aggregate victory by 6-3 and a place in the second round of the European Cup Winners Cup.
In fact by the end the Spanish side were almost humiliated by the Manchester club. whose success was their first in a Continental competition.
COLIN BELL MAKES IT 2-0
Bilbao had little answer to the countless attacks and innumerable shots from City’s eager forwards. Indeed it was only the skill of Iribar, and the number of defenders they packed into the goalmouth, that kept the score down. City`s pressure never eased though no score came before half-time. In the 58th minute Oakes. their tireless wing forward. swept through the Atletico defence to score a superb goal from 25 yards.
IAN BOWYER CRACKS HOME THE THIRD
Nine minutes later it was Oakes again who provided a long through ball, Iribar chased frantically to the edge of the goal area but could only stand watching as Bell headed home Young`s deflected shot. Five minutes from the end Iribar deflected a drive from Young. which Bowyer pushed home.
