ANOTHER GOAL FROM RODNEY MARSH
City were still trying to find their form of previous seasons when they met Wolves at Maine Road. Paul Wilcox wrote in The Guardian “A few of us must be very hard to please, judging from the number of other people who were able to convince themselves that they had seen signs of a revival and a passably good game between Manchester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers at Maine Road on Saturday.
They were able to find optimism from City’s performance because Bell and Lee no doubt wanting to continue their international careers on Wednesday, showed signs that they can still play; but such phrases as ‘If only City had been able to call on their four injured first team players’ and ‘If they had a little more luck,’stretched the imagination too much. They might have well said that if Aunt Matilda had a moustache and smoked a pipe, she would be my Uncle Herbert.
When City have to take heart from a draw at home, then it is certain that times indeed are hard…”

City took the lead after the break courtesy of a mistake by Phil Parkes, Francis Lee’s high ball into the Wolves area was totally misjudged by Parkes and he missed the ball completely, as it landed behind him there was Rodney Marsh on hand to stab it home.
Less than ten minutes later Wolves equalised and again the keeper could have done better. Healey was nowhere near a great cross from Kindon and Dougan easily scored into an undefended net.
