PETER GARDNERS ‘VERDICT’ FROM THE MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS FOOTBALL PINK FINAL 6TH NOVEMBER 1976
City were frustrated by a superbly organised Newcastle side at Maine Road today.
The Magpies soaked up punishing pressure and stood firm as City threw everything at them, including substitute Peter Barnes.
City flung themselves forward with fast and furious attacks, but left themselves vulnerable to the break as Newcastle built up patiently from the back with their intelligent short ball game.
Kidd and Royle battled up front without reward and Tueart was busy on the flanks.
