NO KIDDING, CITY ARE MASTERS OF MANCHESTER
ALAN THOMPSON WRITING IN THE DAILY EXPRESS 12TH SEPTEMBER 1977
Saturday afternoon was wonderful and Saturday night enjoyable but Brian Kidd was not looking forward to Sunday morning.
Kidd, Manchester City hero with two goals in the 3-1 win over his old side Manchester United, was due as usual to have Sunday breakfast with his parents.
Dad is a City fan, mum supports United and Brian laughed: “I suppose she will see the baker’s strike as an excuse to keep me on short rations after this.”
He need not have worried. Families get over such things. But Manchester United could not get over Brian Kidd, who was unlucky not to have completed a hat-trick.
United boss Dave Sexton admitted: “City were more direct and positive in front of goal.” Tony Book, of City, cheerfully declared: “We looked good.”
… Injuries have cut United down to half strength for Wednesday’s European Cup Winners Cup match against St Etienne.
Brian and Jimmy Greenhoff, Stuart Pearson and Lou Macari could all be out
Stewart Houston is still short of match practice after three come-back games in the reserves and is unlikely to ease Sexton’s headache.
In contrast Manchester City have too many players, Dennis Tueart is almost fit for the UEFA Cup tie with Polish side Widzew Lodz, so the problem for Book is who to leave out.
