PETER GARDNER’S ‘VERDICT’ FROM THE MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS FOOTBALL PINK FINAL
City, overrun by Everton in a one-way first half, provided more determined bite after the break at Goodison Park today. But few players emerged with real distinction.
Keith Macrae was an exception, for he made some brave, if unorthodox saves as Everton attempted to build on the seventh minute lead John Connolly had given them.
City’s display n the first 45 minutes was about their worst of the season. They added to their own problems by unnecessarily giving the ball away, but came into the match more after half-time.
However, neither side emerged with distinction. The substitution of Phil Henson for Geoff Hammond gave City a more flexible look and the Blues might have got better rewards had they pressed with more conviction.
