City overcame their bogey side Arsenal at Maine Road to surge to 17 points, equal with Division One leaders Liverpool and Ipswich.
The Gunners have now failed to win in the last nine games and this defeat sent them to the foot of the table. However, in the first half it looked like Arsenal would turn the tables on City again when a 16th minute pass by Eddie Kelly, was turned into the path of John Radford by the luckless Jeff Clarke, and the striker dispatched the ball past Keith MacRae to put the North Londoners 1-0 up.
City battled away for the rest of the half against a very defensive Arsenal, however it took an error 11 minutes after the break by keeper Jimmy Rimmer for The Blues to get their deserved equaliser. Rimmer dropped a floated free kick in the box and Dennis Tueart poked the ball over the line from less than a yard out.
Dennis Tueart also grabbed the winner ten minutes from the end, when he bravely pounced in the box to score. However in the melee Rimmer fell on to Tueart’s ankle and worryingly the City forward was stretchered off, the fans hoping he would be fit for the next game just four days away.
