PETER GARDNER’S ‘VERDICT’ FROM THE MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS FOOTBALL PINK FINAL
Skipper Rodney Marsh launched City into a fighting comeback with a breathtaking goal against an inspired Coventry side this afternoon.
It came 20 minutes from the end of a game which looked beyond the grip of the Blues, who had trailed by two goals.
Earlier, City had hardly covered themselves with glory, allowing Coventry to get on top in a game which was wrecked by a wicked swirling wind that made control of the ball extremely difficult.
City’s finishing, particularly in the first half was poor. But they rallied after the break when the hard working Colin Bell was desperately unlucky to see a fine solo effort cleared off the line.
World Cup winger Tommy Hutchison had a field day, giving City an extremely difficult time at the back. But despite the setbacks City’s spirit remained high and they battled bravely right to the end.
