DAVID CROSS SCORES ONE OF HIS TWO GOALS
FROM ‘THAT WAS THE WEEK’ ARTICLE PUBLISHED IN THE CITY PROGRAMME 16TH JANUARY 1999
… The Blues were tenth in Division One and Norwich 18th. City, who had briefly topped the table in September, had won only two of their last ten League outings whereas Norwich had won six out of 13.
… Cross scored the opening goal after ninebminutes with a diving header from a centre by Peter Bodak. Well rehearsed set-pieces, with Kevin Bond playing an important role at corner kicks, brought about a three-goal lead in the middle of the first half.
Asa Hartford delivered the ball for Bond to score with a looping header over Chris Woods after 32 minutes, and three minutes later, Bond flicked on another Hartford corner for Cross to head home. The Canaries surprisingly pulled one back two minutes later, O’Neill hammering a free kick through the defensive wall to beat Corrigan, who played for 80 minutes in some discomfort, having jarred an old collarbone injury.
The second half was poor by comparison. City became defensive-minded, but a further goal by Hartford from a Dennis Tueart pass
completed the scoring after 84 minutes.
