City, with only one goal in the last four games, rarely looked like breaking through against a slick looking Forest outfit.
Willie Young put Brian Clough’s men in charge with the first goal after 41 minutes.
And ex-Manchester United striker Garry Birtles, bang in scoring form since going back to Forest, struck twice in the 46th and 71st minutes to put City on the rack.
The Blues, in fact, had to wait until 20 minutes from time for their first shot at goal and that came from Andy May.
