Asa Hartford became City`s second sending-off of the pre-season period in the Barcelona Tournament Final. He was given marching orders in the 66th minute for retaliating against sub Silvio after the Brazilian had rugby—tackled the Scot.
By that time lnternacionale were already 2—0 ahead, securing their goals through a penalty from Edevaldo and a classic near—post header from Paulo Cesar. They added another by Fernando before David Cross replied 5 minutes from time with a header. He got the chance as Kevin Bond back—headed to him from the near post.
Kevin Reeves again gave an effective performance while Joe Corrigan continued his starring role and Ray Ranson impressed. Ranson was unlucky to concede the penalty that gave the Brazilians the initiative.
The City system of using Bond as a sweeper behind the back—four defenders looks to have possibilities despite the result in this Final. The Brazilians took the trophy, City finished second, Cologne beat hosts, Barcelona, to take third place.. And 160,000 fans watched the 4 games in the competition.
