FROM AN ARTICLE BY JOHN MADDOCKS, PUBLISHED IN THE CITY PROGRAMME 10TH MARCH 1990
The Blues welcomed back Kenny Clements as the former City player returned from his spell with Oldham Athletic, initially on loan for the rest of the season. Middlesbrough were the visitors to Maine Road and the final outcome was another three precious promotion points for the Blues.
The 1-0 victory flattered City when, as so often is the case, we failed to impress against relegation battlers. Kernaghan and Currie forced Williams into making magnificent saves but David Phillips was the real hero of the day when he headed the only goal on the quarter-hour, making it 5 goals in 6 games for the Welsh international.
