Gordon Davies scored his third goal in four games to give City the lead as a disappointing season ended at Maine Road.
But Luton Town, the team who sent the Blues tumbling to relegation three years ago, came back five minutes into the second half when Emeka Nawajiobi equalised.
… McIlroy, in his first home league game for about seven months, started two promising moves involving young Barrett and Wilson, but both came to nothing.
… Luton created the best chance in the 21st minute. Nwijiobi crossed from the right for Stein, whose splendid shot was palmed away by Nixon.
A minute later City bounced back to take the lead. McNab, midway inside the Luton half, split the defence with a majestic ball from left to right. It found Davies free in space and the Welsh international beat the oncoming Sealey with a low shot.
… In the 30th minute Lillis forced the ball in after Davies headed in a right flanking cross following neat play by McIlroy and Wilson, but the linesman’s flag was up.
… Luton, so disappointing in the first half, finally struck in the 50th minute, Nwajiobi slotting in the equaliser past the oncoming Nixon after being put through by Hill…
