Rock-bottom Manchester City turned in a fighting display before going dwn 2-0 at Nottingham Forest this afternoon.
The Blues looked anything but relegation candidates as they chased their first away win of the season against Brian Clough’s title contenders.
Ex-Manchester United striker Garry Birtles put the skids under City when he snatched his 13t goal of the season just after the break.
But before then City’s Neil McNab had a goal disallowed. John Gidman hit a post, and Imrie Varadi had a good effort cleared off the line.
But it was all over for the Blues when Franz Carr made it 2-0 after 85 minutes.
