REPORT FROM IRELAND’S SATURDAY NIGHT 13TH SEPTEMBER 1986
Oxford’s Republic of Ireland defender David Langan missed an easy chance after six minutes against Manchester City at Manor Road. Ray Houghton created the chance with a perfect pass to the unmarked Langan who drove high over the bar.
City’s Earl Barrett was booked for a clumsy tackle on John Trewick and later goalkeeper Perry Suckling was cautioned for handling outside the area.
United were creating the better chances and Les Phillips was well off target after 26 minutes from a Jeremy Charles cross into the area.
