Manchester City found a sparkling Spanish scoring touch but ran into more disciplinary hot water here last night.
Nicky Reid was sent off in the 35th minute of the 3-0 victory over Malaga that gave the Blues third place in the Costa Del Sol Tournament.
48 hours earlier, Neil McNab was also dismissed in the goalless draw with Real Betis who pipped City 5-3 in the penalty shootout.
But neither Reid nor McNab will face further disciplinary action from the FA when they return home.
Said manager Billy McNeill today: “They won’t miss any First Division fixtures because of their foolish action. Fortunately the competition’s rules stipulate that sent off players will not be reported back to their national association.”
Reid’s dismissal came after he had committed his second bookable offence and Malaga also had a player sent off, Carlos Paquito for a 67th minute foul on Paul Simpson.
The handicap of playing with ten men did not unsettle the Blues although they were affected by the intense heat of the first half.
In fact, it was not until the burning sun had dipped behind the mountains that provided a dramatic backcloth that the Blues made the breakthrough.
