Eric Nixon almost sabotaged City’s Littlewoods Cup campaign before it got off the ground.
His last minute clanger in the Maine Road first leg when he allowed a speculative 30-yarder from Robbie Dennison to slip agonisingly under his body gave the Fourth Division side a shock 2-1 victory.
Tony Adcock had given the Blues the lead with his first goal for the club following a £75,000 summer move from Colchester with Wanderers hot shot Steve Bull, who eventually finished the country’s top overall marksman, equalising midway through the second half.
