…In a first half, watched by 23,416, of few chances the eventual outcome was probably affected by two injuries. Firstly Wednesday lost Andy Sinton with an ankle injury which resulted in man of the match Chris Bart-Williams entering the fray while City lost Niall Ouinn with an injury so serious that he not only missed the second half of the game, but the rest of the season plus Eire’s World Cup campaign. Wednesday stepped up a gear in the second half and took the lead after 66 minutes when Ryan Jones surged between two defenders to stab the ball home from Mark Bright’s knock down. Inside ten minutes it was two-nil with one of the best goals Bartman will never score! He crowned a mazy run from the left touch line, which took him through the City defence and around ’keeper Coton, by slotting the ball home. lt was only after the game that he found out that Ryan Jones had slid in at the far post to prod the ball the last few inches over the line and had been awarded the goal. The Owls stretched their lead with six minutes left when Jemson headed home Hyde’s cross before City scored a consolation goal through a 20 yard Sheron strike near the end.
