PETER GARDNER’S ‘VERDICT’ FROM THE MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS FOOTBALL PINK FINAL 23RD AUGUST 1975
City bared their teeth in a tight, physical clash at Coventry this afternoon where they had two goals disallowed in a stirring second half rally.
A goal down after 22 minutes, the Blues stuck grimly to their task of hauling themselves back into a match where referee Clive Thomas took the names of four players.
City looked solid at the back but again there was a lack of positive drive in front of goal. Trialist Billy Telford was thrown in for his First Division baptism when City were made to struggle on without striker Joe Royle after 10 minutes.
Watson and Doyle were sound at the back and there was again plenty of effort from Bell, Hartford and Tueart.
Four minutes from the end any hopes of City salvaging a reward disappeared when Green struck his second goal.
