blackpool away 1975 to 76 actiona
There were debuts for new signing Dave Watson and youngster Tony Henry in an experimental side that saw Tommy Booth playing as sweeper behind Doyle and Watson with Willie Donachie switching to right back and Alan Oakes in an unaccustomed left back role. Colin Bell was absent due to an ankle injury sustained in training.
Although it was only the first of the pre-season warm ups, it’s clear that, although there were the same good individual performances, Tony Book needs to work on the unity within the team, too many times, especially at the back, there was a lack of understanding, in part to do with the new experiment of playing Tommy Booth as sweeper and also the fact that City lost Mike Doyle through injury early in the second half.
The debutants performed well, with Dave Watson outstanding in the air, and Tony Henry, whilst not quite a replacement for the injured Colin Bell, had an adequate first game in midfield.
City had good chances to win the game with Hartford, Tueart and Doyle all having efforts saved by Blackpool’s star man, John Burridge.
Against the run of play Hart scored the winner for The Seasiders with an angled shot past Joe Corrigan with less than ten minutes left to play.
