This was a stern test for the Blues. The game was not a classic to watch with few chances and both sides packing the midfield. The only bright point for the Blues in the first half was 38th minute Anelka header against the woodwork after nice work by Benarbia and Wright-Phillips.
Villa’s best chance came two minutes before the break when an excellent save by Peter Schmeichel robbed Peter Crouch of putting ‘The Villains in front.
Villa worked hard in the second half and had two good chances before Darius put them ahead in 64th minute. It was definitely a day where hard work won over skill.
