ERIC BROOK
Eric was born in Mexborough, Yorkshire and signed for City from Barnsley in March 1928 Prior to joining Barnsley he had workrd down a mine.
He was a diminutive roaming forward with a thunderous shot, and was also dangerous on the wing. he made his debut at home to Grimsby in March 1928 and scored the first of his 159 goals for City two games later.
He played 11 full seasons for the Blues and was leading goalscorer twice.
As well as being a consistent goalscorer, he also would step up to the mark as a reserve goalkeeper if City custodian, Frank Swift, had to leave the field of play due to injury.
He was capped 18 times for England, his career came to an enforced end through head injuries suffered in a car accident whilst traveling to play in an England international game, when he was 32.
He ended up working as a crane driver at Metrovicks, he died at his home in Wythenshawe in March 1965 at the age of 57.
