TONY CUNNINGHAM SCORES CITY’S FIRST GOAL
City could have been forgiven for thinking their chance of meeting Chelsea in the 4th round had passed them by after failing to beat first Division West Ham at Maine Road, however from a combination of their resolute defending, and sloppy play from West Ham, City took a well deserved lead in the 24th minute when Tony Cunningham forced the ball in after good work from Mick McCarthy.
Whitton was the stand out player for West Ham and he equalised early in the 2nd half, after minutes earlier smashing a shot against the bar, he made no mistake from another excellent shot.
City replied almost immediately however with the wistful Steve Kinsey flicking the ball over the line after Mick McCarthy won a header from a Paul Power corner. The Blues continued to threaten to score more before the final whistle and ended the game worthy 2-1 winners.
