Albion went ahead when Don Hovve’s 35 yard drive deflected off Keith Marsden, then scored again in the 35th minute as Ray Barlow’s low shot struck Brian Whitehouse and left John Savage stranded. City reduced the deficit through Boy Clarke three minutes later, but Griffin restored Albion’s two goal advantage in the 41st minute. Paddy Fagan followed up Marsden’s shot to score City’s second in the 55th minute, only for West Brom to respond immediately as Bobby Robson netted when Savage failed to hold Griffin’s effort. Ken Barnes missed a penalty and Albion broke to score a fifth with Frank Griffin dribbling past four defenders.
Roy Horobin netted West Brom’s sixth with a fine left-foot shot, then Don Howe made it seven from the penalty-spot in the 80th minute. Frank Griffin completed his hat-trick from Horobin’s pass a minute
later, then Derek Kevan scored Albion’s ninth goal from another penalty conceded by Dave Ewing.

WBA where the best team in england in those wonderful days
One of the more memorable results v City.
At games end Savage launched the ball over the stand, the ball landing in Halfords Lane. Happy day at the Hawthorns.
