A resurgent City team made it four League victory’s on the trot beating relegation threatened West Bromwich Albion at Maine Road.
It seemed the god’s though were with City as West Brom put up a stern performance that perhaps should have earned the ‘Baggies’ a point.
It was City’s captain Paul Power who set the Blues to victory though on the quarter hour, with a superb individual goal. He controlled a Neil McNab corner, flicking it in the air before smashing a volley past Godden.
West Brom, however, were resolute for the rest of the half keeping the deficit to one goal, despite Gordon Davies going close ten minutes before half-time when he headed against the West Brom bar from a cross by Power.
After the break the visitors had several chances to equalise, first Owen stabbed at the ball after Nixon dropped a cross at his feet, luckily for The Blues Nicky Reid managed to clear the ball off the line. After Hunt and Reilly also went close, eventually 10 minutes from time Albion must have thought they’d grabbed a very important point. Nicholl crossed in from the right and a well directed header from Tony Grealish beat Nixon and it was 1-1.
West Brom held on desperately, however, with less than a minute to go, Davies pounced on to a short back pass to Tony Godden and lifted the ball over the Albion custodian to win the game 2-1.
