Manchester City, still waiting for their first win under new boss John Benson, were never in the hunt at Swansea where they lost 4-1.
The Blues went in 3-0 down at the interval through Bob Latchford, Ian Walsh and a Robbie James penalty.
Walsh grabbed his second after 52 minutes before Bobby McDonald pulled one back for City.
It was an unhappy day all round for the Blues with Ronnie Hildersley booked on is debut.
