Jim Tolmie has won another round in his battle to bounce back into Manchester City’s promotion hunting side.
The dynamic little Scot produced another all-action display in Malaya’s sweltering heat last night as City won the second game of their tour beating Selangpr 1-0.
And he earned a tribute from manager Billy McNeill who said: “He looks very sharp and is enjoying his football.”
Tolmie’s full return to fitness after a troublesome knee injury will be a major boost for City when they return next week to launch a crucial stage of their promotion fight.
McNeill said: ” Two of our next five games are at Birmingham City and Blackburn and that is a difficult schedule. But there is no team in the Second Division that can play better than we do. The players were intensely annoyed at the FA Cup defeat at Coventry when we dominated the game for so long and the aggravation which has built up from the loss of a Cup run has increased their appetites for the rest of the League programme.”
McNeill is delighted that City have maintained their momentum in difficult conditions in Malaya and Tolmie’s form has compensated for the injury to Jim Melrose which could keep him out of City’s next League game at Crystal Palace a week tomorrow.
A side packed with attacking players earned last night’s victory over Selangor thanks to a thundering header from Andy May in the second half…
