REPORT FROM THE SUNDAY INDEPENDENT (DUBLIN) 1ST MARCH 1987
Martin Allen’s diving 83rd minute header earned QPR the points after a pre-match protest had threatened to deflect them from the task of beating Manchester City at Loftus Road.
Protesters sat down in the middle of the pitch as the two teams came on to the field and, waving banners that incuded “Marler, Football’s AIDS virus” succeeded in delaying the kick-off by 19 minutes.
It was difficult for both sides to concentrate on the football after this but Rangers were always on top and City did not manage a goal attempt until the second half.
