DENNIS TUEART SCORES CITY’S THIRD GOAL
FROM THE PRESS BOX
REPORT FROM THE ABERDEEN PRESS AND JOURNAL 4TH AUGUST 1976
Brian Kidd, City’s £100,000 signing from Arsenal last month was their scoring ace in this Tennent Caledonian Cup play-off at Ibrox last night for 3rd and 4th place.
He headed beautifully taken goals in the first half as Manchester City tore Thistle apart. The first came in the 14th minute. Tueart did the leading up and when Royle swung the ball to the far post Kidd headed well beyond Rough’s reach.
It was Kidd again seven minutes later. He timed the flight of a power centre to perfection to nod cleanly into the net.
City’s Scottish left half, Asa Hartford, hit a spectacular third goal in the 43rd minute when a Tueart corner was played into his path.
Tueart finished the the game as a contest in the 71st minute, racing in to meet a Royle cross from the left to sweep the ball home.
Melrose reduced the leeway four minutes later when he hooked a Craig free-kick well beyond Corrigan’s reach.
Ironically the Patrick scorer was Jim Melrose……
Autocorrects…..damn. Partick…..
