FROM AN ARTICLE BYJOHN MADDOCKS, PUBLISHED IN THE CITY PROGRAMME 21ST MARCH 1985
An unchanged City team visited Oxford, also promotion contenders, and crashed 0-3, their recent reputation counting for nothing as they were outplayed in every department. League leaders they might have been at 3 p.m. . . . at 4.45 they looked decidedly ordinary.
Aldridge set up a club record after 28 minutes by notching his 25th goal of the season, then Hebberd added to the celebrations two minutes later by heading Brock’s centre past Williams, Midway through the second half, Aldridge banged in a penalty after Power had handled, and then a strong City revival saw City’s Kinsey hitting the crossbar, barely compensation. Bobby McDonald, formerly a Blue, managed to look only mildly pleased at the result.
