The stage was set for the final scenes in the nail-biting promotion drama. For the home game against Oldham, Jamie Hoyland was drafted in to replace the ulcer-stricken Tolmie, and Jamie was the centre of the party piece that had everyone buzzing at the interval. Writhing after a challenge by Gary Hoolickin, his plight forced Andy May to speak his mind to referee Peter Willis, who promptly ordered an early bath. The incident upset City’s rhythm and in the end they did well to hang on for a 0-0 draw.
