Manchester City are staring at a crisis, and manager Mel Machin knows it.
City were dead after just 16 minutes following two quicksilver goals from young Clough.
The sorry sight of England under 21 defender Hinchcliffe foolishly sent off in the closing minutes and a third goal from Rice seconds before time only added to City’s misery on a day which exposed the flaws Machin must mend.
Even with £700,000 new boy Hendry beefing their defence City still got it wrong. Clough junior masterminded Forest’s win and gave a glimpse of the extra dimesion he could add to Bobby Robson’s England squad.
Forest’s task was made easier when Hinchcliffe, earlier booked for dissent, kicked the ball away in frustration and was sent off.
