Manchester City’s young pretenders went down fighting in a 2-1 defeat against Middlesbrough at Ayresome Park.
The Blues, hit by injuries and suspensions, had Jason Beckford making his League debut and teenagers Ian Thompstone and Paul Warhurst as substitutes.
And the youngsters made a fight pf it against promotion contenders Boro after going behind to goals from Stuart Ripley and Gary Hamilton.
Thomstone came on to reduce the arrears with a well-taken goal in the second half to give City a fighting chance.
