Taken from THIS SIMPLE GAME THE FOOTBALLING LIFE OF KEN BARNES as told by Jimmy Wagg
Ken’s second testimonial match was played on Friday 8th May 1992 at Maine Road with Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United providing the opposition. The game had been arranged by the Testimonial Committee, made up of Tudor Thomas, John Doherty, Denis Law, Colin Barlow and Joe Richardson. The match was refereed by the late, great Neil Midgley.
Although Alex Ferguson brought his full first team squad, very poor weather meant that sadly, there was no bumper crowd for Ken, though ne did receive enough to pay off the small balance of his mortgage and get a new car, not quite the six or seven figure sums generated nowadays, but Ken was very grateful.
