City were in rampant home home form, six teams had visited Maine Road and each had crept away with their tales between their legs.
…Luton arrived with a determination to change things. Goals by Gordon Turner and Reg Pearce, the latter following a 40 yard dribble, gave them a deserved 2-0 lead. Even when Luton lost Full Back Seamus Dunne through injury with 35 minutes to go, the City attack couldn’t get functioning against the ten men, and many fans… began to drift away despondently.
There were 60 seconds to goal, a 0-2 defecit to face, and City pulled off an amazing rescue act. In the 89th minute striker Billy McAdams reduced the arrears and with one minute Colin Barlow slipped in the equaliser with the last kick of the game.
About 50% of the crowd had already left, though after the roar greeted McAdam’s goal some of them started filtering back.

  1. This was my first game my farther took me to I don’t have any recalection of the game itself only him saying as we walked down the steps at the back of the old score board end had City played another ten minutes they would have won 6-2. And after having watching the 56 cup final on TV with him the seed was sown I’m now 71 years old and still crazy for the boys in blue and enjoying the wonderful time were having.
