The Match of the Day viewers were treated to a fantastic FA Cup tie at Elland Road, the bog of a pitch didn’t produce high skill, however the power and passion from both sides was a pleasure to see.
The highlight for City was a save by Joe Corrigan, which he would later rank as probably the best of his career and deserved a replay at least; Allan Clarke met a cross on the six yard box and his point blank header wide to the corner looked a certain goal before ‘big Joe’ twisted in mid air and flung out a long arm to incredibly tip the ball away. John Motson commentating, proclaimed; “Surely, One of the saves of the season!”
Unfortunately for Joe and the rest of the City players and fans, there was no replay as four minutes from the end Trevor Cherry scored the winning goal stabbing the ball past Corrigan at the second time of asking.
