Leeds dominated the majority of this game at Elland Road without making too many chances to bother the City defence, and The Blue’s fighting spirit late in the second half produced some excellent chances, one of which secured a point for The Citizens.
Malcolm Allison’s summary of the game was: “We were out-played in the first half, and I was embarrassed at that stage. But I was very pleased with our performance after the interval, and particularly in the last 20 minutes.
We had been playing too many short balls into people on a difficult ground. It seemed as if the players couldn’t get their recent style of play out of their systems. We’ve got some good runners in the side and after I talked to them at half-time, they recognised that we had to use that asset.
The more it went on the more it looked as if we could win it. I feel City have been playing too negatively with not enough positive running. This is what we’ll continue to work on.
I feel the dressing room has been lifted since my arrival.”
Leeds took the lead just before half-time, when, Man of the Match, Tony Currie swung in a great free kick that Hawley headed past Corrigan, who had no chance.
It was the brilliance of sub Brian Kidd that gave City a share of the points when he smashed home a great shot from 25 yards with just four minutes left.
