GRAHAM BAKER SCORES TO SECURE CITY ALL THE POINTS
FROM AN ARTICLE BY JOHN MADDOCKS, PUBLISHED IN THE CITY PROGRAMME 26TH AUGUST 1989
Huddersfield were the visitors to Maine Road, licking their wounds after a 1-5 pasting by Shrewsbury the previous Saturday.
Happily we only added to their problems, a 1-0 win coming courtesy of a Baker header after being set up by Cunningham
lt was hard work, mind you. Allardyce and Jones had picked off the high balls pumped into the Town box up to the time of the goal, but it was a Jones slip that eventually let in Cunningham.
Town were clearly missing Mark Lillis, out injured, but Winter caused anxious moments in the City defence especially in the closing seconds.
Reid and Smith had splendid games while Phillips showed he was quickly settling in and would be a valuable asset during the winter.
