FROM THE MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS FOOTBALL PINK FINAL 11TH AUGUST 1984
… City are becoming increasingly concerned over the fitness of Nicky Reid, who missed last night’s embarrassing 2-2 draw in Drogheda.
… They conceded a sloppy early goal with McCarthy carelessly giving the ball away after 17 minutes, and it was not until an hour had passed that they equalised.
McCarthy made up for his earlier error, heading in at the near post, and when Jim Tolmie put Cty ahead victory seemed assured.
But again the Blues were caught out at the back with substitute Ritchie Culhane exposing them for Pat Mahon to tap in a last-gasp equaliser.
