Manchester City finally overcame the Coventry Hoodoo When a David White scrambled goal seven minutes from time gave them victory at Maine Road.
Coventry had beaten City 2-1 in the League at Highfield Road in August and won 1-0 at Maine Road in the fourth round of the Littlewood’s Cup in November
White bundled the ball home from close range after new signing Wayne Clarke flicked on Andy Hinchcliffe’s 83rd minute free kick.
It was a Scrappy goal to decide to Scrappy game, but the result put City 14th in Division One, their highest position since early November.
City boss, Howard Kendall, whose team has taken 11 points out of 18 since he arrived as manager six weeks ago said: “Coventry came here to make it difficult. What we really needed was an early goal.” Kendall came to City from Athletico Bilbao in Spain and he said: “One thing that has crept into English football since I came back is that teams trying to play football are sometimes hindered by the opposition trying to stop them by pushing and tripping. The offences are not harsh enough for the referee to punish, but they do nothing for entertainment.”
