A LATE GOAL FOR GED TAGGART
FROM THE PRESS BOX
REPORT FROM THE MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS FOOTBALL PINK FINAL 18TH MARCH 1989
Manchester City were knocked off the top of the Second Division table by promotion rivals Chelsea at Maine Road.
The visitors crushed the Blues 3-2 with City looking a pale shadow of their side that swept into the League leadership.
Former England striker Kerry Dixon punished City for some slack marking when he scored the first goal after 16 minutes.
Then Dixon set up Kevin Wilson for Chelsea’s second goal after 25 minutes and the damage was done.
But Chelsea still weren’t finished and Tony Dorigo moved in for the third goal after 70 minutes, before Neil McNab pulled a goal back for the Blues with a 77th minute penalty.
The Blues put a respectable appearance on the scoreline when Gerry Taggart scored in the last minute.
From the report it looks like the above stated timing for Chelsea’s third goal should be 69 minutes not 79?
